Embracing Your Inner Ballerina: Artistic Reflections

When thinking about the above title, I think “what in the world does that mean? Is it me working side by side with the love of my life? Or is it working two jobs at the same time?

Oh no, it’s neither. Today, we were to pick an occupation out of a hat. Cute little folded piece of paper gave yours truly the occupation of a Ballerina. Not something I have ever aspired to be or thought I could ever do mind you. Then we were to sit and reflect on how similar we were with our chosen profession. I still couldn’t come up with anything. Choose our medium and gather our materials. We were given a photo of our profession to help give us inspiration to draw them. I immediately went to drawing out my ballerina on a piece of scrap paper. I don’t generally draw people, well ok, um, I don’t generally draw. lol But I was determined I was going to pull this off somehow and I was going to be proud of myself come hell or high water!

Well, the sketch came out great and so I went ahead and started drawing on the final medium. As I was drawing my ballerina, I tried to think of the similarities between the two of us. In looking at her, she is very fluid and exact in her movements. She is on point with her every move. Ballet in and of itself has an elegance about it and ballerinas normally train their entire lives to be the perfection they strive for in later years.

I also started to think about a ballerinas surroundings when she is working hard to perfect her craft. They are usually in a studio of some sort with a huge mirror and a barre. So in my rendition, I included this into my piece. The ballerina can see herself in the mirror and make adjustments as needed. She can also use the bar to balance herself.

In looking at myself, I find myself similar in that I like to be as precise as I possibly can. I am very detail oriented when it comes to everything I do. Like the ballerina, I am always calculating my next move as in what challenge do I want to take on now or what is next up on my calendar for today. I can be graceful, maybe not so elegant but I do like to try to master everything I do. It’s an internal drive I just can’t seem to shut off.

Here is my Professional Parallel:

And as always, here is the work of all of my friends from art class this week:

I think we also had a Synchronized Swimmer, a Hippie, a Cheer Leader, a Gardener, a Construction worker and a Lion Tamer. All qualities that each lady did find similarities to.

So when you think about YOUR Professional Parallel, what is it? A stargazer? A scientist? A boom operator? How about you think for a minute of all the professions you can think of and write them all down. Take the top five and write them each on a piece of paper and fold them up. Put them in a hat and draw one randomly. NO! Wait! Don’t you dare put that one back in the hat! You drew it for a reason. LOL Just kidding folks. But seriously, meditate for a few minutes on it and then find a picture on Google of the profession. Print it out then try to draw that person on a piece of paper. Think about all of the different qualities that worker has and see if you have any of the same qualities. I bet you do!

When you are done, feel free to post up what you have so the rest of us can see to! I look forward to seeing all of your wonderful artwork.

Happy journaling!
